Spending Plan for Divorce Negotiation

The Savvy Life supports clients preparing for divorce by helping them understand the true cost of their day-to-day life—both now and after the divorce. Our goal is to provide you and your attorney with a realistic, accurate Spending Plan to support informed negotiation.

Divorce is one of the most emotionally taxing experiences a person can go through. In the midst of difficult conversations and life-changing decisions, it can feel nearly impossible to step back and clearly evaluate your financial future.

Yet the agreements you make today will shape the life you live tomorrow.

At The Savvy Life, we support clients preparing for divorce by bringing clarity to the true cost of everyday life — both now and after the transition. We create realistic, accurate Spending Plans that equip you and your attorney with the information needed to negotiate from a place of confidence, not uncertainty.

The Process

Step 1: Introductory Meeting

Numbers on a page don’t tell the full story of a person’s life.
During this meeting, we take time to understand:

  • Your current day-to-day financial reality

  • Your future goals, needs, and expected lifestyle

  • Any anticipated changes after the divorce

This context ensures your Spending Plan reflects your actual life—not just the math.

Step 2: Provide Financial Information

You will be asked to provide:

  • A completed template of your monthly and annual bills

  • The credit card and bank statements you want us to categorize

Step 3: Transaction Categorization

  • We categorize all submitted statements to identify where money is currently being spent.

  • If we encounter transactions or vendors we cannot identify, we will request clarification.

  • Processing time is typically 2 weeks from the date we receive the documents.

Step 4: Review Meeting

Together we will:

  • Review the draft Spending Plan

  • Identify missing or irregular expenses

  • Discuss new or additional expenses that may arise post-divorce

Step 5: Final Spending Plan

After revisions, you will receive a finalized Spending Plan suitable to share with your divorce attorney as part of the negotiation process.
