Home Living Room A Summer Solstice Gift
A Summer Solstice Gift
Wednesday, 24 June 2009
Sunday, June 21st was summer solstice. One of my best friends, who also appreciates celebrating the seasons, brought me a gift in honor of the longest day of the year. It was a goody bag filled with lemons from her lemon tree and a sprig of fresh rosemary tied with a beautiful maroon ribbon. She added several rosemary based recipes typed out on index cards. She also included a Mason Jar, tied with a ribbon and filled with compost from her worms which is the equivalent of black gold.

I especially loved the packaging. She simply rolled down the sides of a brown paper bag until it had the effect of a basket. The beauty, simplicity and thoughtfulness that went into the gift will stay with me forever. It has also inspired me to look for ways to add a little extra thought or beauty to gifts that I give. Of course, this particular friend is naturally blessed with that type of thoughtfulness and ingenuity. I have to work a little harder at it, but it's a fun challenge and absolutely worth it.

It's interesting to note that all the items were from her kitchen and garden. She didn't have to go out and purchase anything. It was a thoughtful AND budget savvy gift! Do you see why I am so inspired?
