Tomorrow morning, Dante and I will swing by Janna's (Budget Savvy's photo editor) house at 5am to pick her up. We will then proceed 130 miles east to beautiful Chowchilla, CA. After handing Dante over to my eagerly awaiting mom, Janna and I will meet my dad at the Chowchilla Fairgrounds. Dad will have his three horses saddled and ready to go. After we mount, we will join 20 - 30 other cowboys to drive 40 - 50 head of cows through downtown for the 53rd annual Chowchilla Stampede.
This will be the third time my dad and I ride in the event and it is a highlight of our year. We are thrilled that Janna will be joining us.
There is nothing like breaking up your week by following the tails of 40 cows as they make their way downtown. Traditionally, the kids are let out of school for the event and everyone pours out of shops to watch the cows go by. I enjoy waiving at my Aunt Donna who's Good to Go travel agency is on Robertson Boulevard. I wave at my Godmother whose salon is just another block down.
The weather forecast calls for rain which makes the event that much more authentic. Two years ago it rained on us and I loved every minute of it. My dad, who is quite the adventurer himself, kept laughing at how happy I was chasing cows in the middle of a downpour. It's a true break from sitting at a desk all day typing on a computer!
There will be no Living the Budget Savvy Life entry tomorrow, but I will be back on Thursday ready to tell you about our adventures.
