I actually have several reasons for wanting to do the interview. I had read that Michael grew up in Turlock, CA. Turlock is just an hour or so north from where I grew up in Fresno. In fact, my great grandparents are buried in Turlock and I have family members all around that area.
I was very curious about his childhood. His mother emigrated from Italy and his father had a stroke when he was four. I wondered if although they didn't have a lot of money, his mother found a way to still put delicious food on the table. (I was correct in that assumption.)
Finally, I was curious to see if he continues any of the money saving habits he learned as a child even though he can more than afford an extravagant lifestyle now.
Let's just say that upon finishing the interview, I immediately sent an email to Budget Savvy's staff stating that, "Michael Chiarello is now the Patron Saint of Budget Savvy".
The man is an amazing, wonderful and innovative individual. He far exceeded my expectations. He is an encyclopedia of how to make what you have go further, how to turn chores into entertainment and so much more. Budget savvy is in his DNA.
I am so excited about writing this piece and sharing it with you. I should have it finished and posted in the coming week.
