Home Living Room A Different Pace at Disneyland
A Different Pace at Disneyland
Friday, 27 February 2009
I love Disneyland. I love the detail. I love the nostalgia it evokes. I love that it is complete and utter escapism. In just six days, Paul, Dante and I are heading to the Happiest Place on earth along with Paul Sr., his wife Joan and Paul's sister Maria. We will have a five adult to one kid ratio. Perfect!

This is a trip we have been planning for over six months. I poured a lot of time into investigating the best deals for what we want out of the trip. For long time readers of Budget Savvy, you know that planning a trip is almost as much fun for me as actually going on a trip. I was able to take advantage of the great deals that Disney is currently offering at the park. I will write the details about our trip when we get back so I can give you a complete story.

One of the things I am most excited about is the amount of time that I padded into the trip. In the past, Paul and I would hop on an early morning flight or take the last flight out at night. We would either head straight to the park if we arrived in the morning or if arriving at night, head straight to our hotel, beyond exhausted. We would then get up the next morning and arrive at the park as soon as it opened, staying until it closed. Although we would have a blast, half way through the second day we would be moving a lot slower and by the time we got home, we would be raw with exhaustion. Why torture ourselves on our vacation? Because, we never allowed ourselves the luxury of time to enjoy the journey. We were always too focused on the destination.

This time, I am taking the day off before we leave so I can clean the house and make sure everything is set for Jesse who is staying at our place while we are gone to take care of Harlan. I booked a 1:00 pm flight for Thursday so we can all sleep in a bit that morning. Because we are taking a mid-day flight, it doesn't make sense for us to go to the park on the day we arrive as we won't get there until late afternoon. Instead, we will have plenty of time to explore the Disneyland Hotel as well as the other hotels on the property. We will stroll through Downtown Disney which is open to the public. We'll sit down and have a nice dinner in the hotel or at Downtown Disney and go to bed early so we will be well rested for the next three days of Disney fun.
