We kicked the weekend off with a trip to the Exploratorium in San Francisco on Saturday. We took Dante's Grandma and Grandpa Tosetti to celebrate Paul's dad's birthday.
I had no expectations of the Exploratorium and was surprised and impressed by it. We proved that whether you are two years old or 69 years old, you can have a great time and learn something new there. It is basically a two story warehouse filled with hands on experiments. You get to touch, pull, push, poke, play and explore everything. We were there for almost two hours and we only managed to get through the first floor. By that time, our stomachs were growling and new knowledge was bleeding out of our ears. It was time to eat.
We headed over to Joe's of Westlake in Daly City for lunch. Open since 1956 they serve delicious Italian-American food at surprisingly reasonable prices. Paul's family has a long history with Joe's. Paul's grandfather and father were close friends with Bruno Scatena, the original owner. They even travelled together in Italy.
I have my own history with Joe's of Westlake as my college roommate's father was the maitre d there. Twice while visiting Gina's family in Pacifica I was treated to dinner at Joe's by her father. Twice Gina's father tried to light the place on fire. The first time, an ember from his cigarette fell into his pocket and started smoldering. The second time we visited, he was demonstrating how to keep the flame going on our Fried Cream in Blue Flame and he accidentally scooped the flaming brandy onto the table cloth. Gina's dad is a fun guy!
After a delicious lunch at Joe's we said goodbye to Grandma and Grandpa Tosetti and headed to the Movie Groove where we rented the first season of Doctor Who. We couldn't have asked for a better weekend to rent 15 hours of television as we endured a much needed storm. It poured almost 24 hours a day. Between taking care of little chores around the house, we watched Christopher Eccleston shine as the ninth Doctor in the 40 year old franchise.
Today, I feel completely recharged and relaxed from our wonderful weekend. It will be six weeks before we have an entire weekend to ourselves again. I plan on making this relaxed feeling last as long as possible!
