Our Chocolate Harvest
Monday, 20 April 2009
A smart budget savvy habit worth adopting is to take advantage of the foods that are in season. For example, strawberries will begin being harvested very shortly. They will be fresh, abundant, delicious and inexpensive. It's the perfect time to make strawberry pie, strawberry shortcake and even strawberry jam if you are adventurous. Then, it will be cherry season and you can focus your baking on cherries. You get the idea.

A few weeks ago, I experienced a chocolate harvest of a sort. Scott, one of our Mixed Martial Arts fighters at Fearless Fitness (who has lost 70 pounds since joining us last July an impressive achievement) was at a cafe and watched as one of the employees tried cutting a huge brick of chocolate into smaller pieces. As he watched her get more and more frustrated, he volunteered to help her. In true martial arts fashion, he broke the chocolate with a palm strike. She was so impressed and thankful that she gave him a 5 lb. piece of the chocolate.

Not wanting to tempt himself, he brought the chocolate to Fearless and gave it to me. Since then, I have been having fun looking for different ways to use the chocolate before it goes bad. Sunday night, I made a Milk Chocolate Mousse that was incredible. It was so rich that I could only eat a few bites. Dante and Paul devoured it.

I got the recipe from the blog, Cooking, Dunkin Style. I love this site! There are at least 12 other items on her site that I plan to cook or bake in the next few months.

So, if you find yourself with an extra 5 lbs of chocolate hanging around give the Milk Chocolate Mousse recipe a try.
