Last night, I broke my five year ban on going to the movie theater to see Julie and Julia. The minute I saw Meryl Streep as Julia Child in the trailer, I knew I couldn't wait until it went to DVD. I am so happy with my decision. What a wonderful movie. I couldn't take my eyes off of Meryl Street. Stanley Tucci as Paul Child was equally wonderful. Now, I anxiously await for it to come out on DVD so I can add it to my personal library.
Why, may you ask, have I not stepped into a movie theater since May of 2004? For some time prior to our ban, Paul and I had terrible experiences with rude audience members. Our experiences were so bad, we actually experimented sitting in various areas of the theater and in going to the movies at different times of the day. We had pretty good luck sitting in the last row, until we went to see Hellboy and listened to the woman sitting a seat away from us translate the entire movie into Spanish for her husband.
After that experience, we decided that unless a movie was particularly compelling, we would stick with watching DVDs at home. That has worked brilliantly for us and in the long run, we have saved hundreds of dollars. As for Julie and Julia, it was SO worth the $8.50 price of admission. Truth be told, if it didn't take me four weeks to figure out a time to see the movie, I'd go see it again while it is still in the theater!

It just hit me last week – that first smell of the Northern California fall air. There’s nothing like it - a crisp coolness after the hot summer, a hint of dampness on the brown grass from the coastal fog and just the start of decaying foliage. Fall is definitely my favorite season. In fact, I enjoy it so much that I actually look forward to the rituals of preparing my home for the colder seasons. Here are some of my favorite, essential routines for getting ready for fall and winter.

Don’t you love the sound of the milk steaming at your local coffee shop? And the smell of the espresso as it brews! Something about that process and the way it tastes and feels in my mouth is REQUIRED, it’s my ritual and I have enjoyed it for many years. Every morning, after sleeping until the last possible second of course, I get ready for whatever the day has in store for me. Before I leave the house, I stop, gather my ingredients and make myself a super yummy, warm, frothy Espresso drink. My favorite is the White Mocha!
