Everyone knows the Golden Rule about grocery shopping - never go to the grocery store hungry. There is an addendum to this rule that I learned last night. Never send your husband and two year old to the grocery store to buy dessert! Here is the back story:
It was one of those hectic weekends with video shoots on Saturday and Sunday for FFIT@home , an online version of Fearless Fitness' FFIT program. In addition, Paul and I, with Dante in tow, drove an hour north to Concord to workout with our Sifu at his new school, Tomizaki's Champions. Needless to say, by the time Sunday afternoon rolled around, I was perfectly content to sit on the couch and watch TV.
When Paul mentioned that he was in need of something sweet, I told him I was too wiped out to bake anything and so he offered to go to the grocery store. In turn, Dante asked to go with him. Twenty minutes later, the two of them come back with guilty smiles on their faces along with a bag of Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, a box of Dove Dark Chocolate Ice Cream Bars, a box of ice cream sandwiches AND a pint of Ben and Jerry's Creme Brule ice cream.
This errant trip to the grocery store was neither Budget Savvy, nor did it fall in line with our FFIT philosophy of indulging in an occasional treat - but with portion control! It was however, a powerful lesson to not let the two go unsupervised to the grocery store again when their sweet tooth is active.
