Dante and I had a fruitful trip to Fresno. We brought back a five gallon bucket filled with Pluots. I am looking forward to eating some and sharing most. Also, Paul and I are going to attempt making Pluot wine. I'll let you know how it goes.
It was a quick trip, but we had a wonderful time. My mom, Dante and I stopped in to see my Aunt Sadie's new house on Saturday night. As a kid, I spent a lot of time listening to her and my mom chat and joke around. It felt like old times as we talked about anything and everything around her dining room table.
On Sunday I drove to Chowchilla for an early morning horseback ride with my dad. We tried to beat the heat and lucked out because it never broke 100 degrees while I was there - unlike the year I was pregnant with Dante and it reached 115.
The ride was wonderful. Usually we stick close to the ranch. This time, we went exploring and discovered a pack of very curious miniature horses at a neighboring ranch. They reminded me of Chihuahuas.
After our ride and visiting with dad and my other mom Linda, I drove back to Fresno to spend more time at my mom and grandmother's place.
My mom had made Soupish which is a simple Portuguese cabbage soup. It is coveted by everyone in our family. I feasted on Soupish as well as her homemade rice pudding. We then spent a good deal of the afternoon hanging out on the back porch watching the miniature donkeys and pygmy goats play with the sheep. A nice, lazy afternoon.
On our way back to the Bay Area, I stopped by Camp Haze again so Dante would have a chance to see Dad and Linda. Dad showed Dante how to feed the horses mulberry leaves. Dante got a kick out of it, but I think my Dad enjoyed it even more.
As I mentioned, it was a quick visit, but definitely worth it. I like to visit my family every six weeks or so. It has been more than 10 weeks since my last visit. We are heading back down again Labor Day Weekend. I'm already looking forward to it.
