It's been a long day at work. It's cold and wet outside and you can think of nothing else but going home. Make your home even more of a sanctuary from the winter weather with these tips.
Crock Pot
I have a distinct and vivid memory from when I was about 12 years old. My mom was in real estate and worked a crazy schedule. Typically, I would be home by myself for a few hours in the afternoon. On this particular day, she had taken the afternoon off and spent the time cleaning and cooking. When I walked in the door I was so happy to see her. But what I remember is the smell of the roast she had in the oven. It greeted me like a hug. It left a mark on me of what home should feel like – a roast cooking in the oven.
Since it's not practical to ask our moms to stop by our houses and cook for us during the work week, a budget savvy alternative is to use your crock pot. Assemble your ingredients and plug it in before heading off to work and you will be greeted with the most amazing smell when you get home. Even better, there will be no worries about "what's for dinner".
Dress the Part
Although you are indoors and away from the weather, it's not an excuse to wear t-shirts and shorts. Save on your electric bill and dress warmly. Silk long underwear is comfortable and doesn't add bulk. You may even opt to change into your pajamas as soon as you get home and settle in for a long winter evening.
If you know you won't be going outside, ditch your shoes for a pair of slippers. You will save wear and tear on your carpet and feel that much more snug.

Throw
We have approximately six blankets and throws for our living room. There are at least three out at all times and the rest are back ups for when the others in the wash. I love hunkering down for an evening of reading or a good movie with a blanket. Bed

Candle Light
I have pillar candles placed throughout my living room. During the winter, and occasionally in the summer, I will light one or two of them. They add instant ambiance creating a relaxed, cozy environment. A pillar candle will last an entire winter and is a savvy investment. Just make sure to use them safely.
